Self-Hypnosis, why is that?
You want to lose your weight, you have used the best weight loss techniques on the internet, and offline without results; you want to have the best diet, how? You want to lose your smoking habit. You want increase your self esteem. You want to tackle your life, your anxieties, and your problems. What is the best solution for all this? I would say, self-hypnosis. How? Read on.
A Hypnosis Primer:
You have seen people getting hypnotized; you have seen it in Dracula, when Mina Harker was put into trance, when she was starting to acquire the obnoxious count, by the great Professor Van Helsing and gave the directions as to where the count Dracula was heading; you have seen it in real life, as treatment to a million psychological disorders including the dissociative identity, schizophrenia etc; you have seen it as valuable tool to gather evidence in famed criminal cases. It is, in fact, one great invention that mankind holds, with practically far reaching ramifications.
Hypnosis is a state of consciousness of the brain, in which the conscious and subconscious regions of the brain are interactive at the same time, keeping the subject in a state of trance, and open to positive suggestions. Positive suggestions in the sense, you could make the subject throw away a harmful habit (s)he has. You can instill good character and mindset to the people; and you can generate affection, hatred or a neutral feeling toward anything. In essence, this versatile psychological tool can work out miracles for you.
The hypnotic process and my experiences with the Subconscious:
The hypnosis requires professional assistance, usually. It is in the form of a physician, a hypnotist, who can induce you to a state of dreamy wakefulness, which requires, also, your cooperation, to achieve. This state is a deep trance state with a big door opened to your subconscious mind. The subconscious, which is immensely powerful part of your brain, can solve any kind of problem you might encounter. It can practically do wonders.
I had a recent experience with the immensity of the Subconscious. I had put one of my keys somewhere, and forgotten it. I couldn’t find these keys, and thought I lost them. Fortunately they were not my house keys. They just opened one of my drawers, and I didn’t have important papers in it. So I was not much the worse. But it was just irksome, nonetheless, to me that I was unable to open that drawer. The thought must have become slightly obsessive to me, because I had a dream a few days later, when I was not much sleeping, but in a light trance (a wakeful dreamy state). I saw exactly where I had put those keys. It was in a shopping cover, and I practically saw the scene of putting the keys in it, and where I put the cover. It was just accidental, and my smart brain must have made a note of that, but kept it hidden to er… tease me. Smart subconscious! Later on I recovered the keys, and was able to open the drawer.
On another occasion, I had a similar experience. It is something, everyone must have experienced some or other time, I guess, because I, myself, had this experience on a number of occasions. This time, I was sleeping, and it was one of the days when my exams fell. I had to get up early in the morning to get ready and go to the college. I wound my alarm clock and slept soundly. I usually do not sleep much in the night, but on exam days. I had to be awake at around four. And exactly around that time, I had a dream. In the dream, I was a horologist about to conclude his craft for the day. I did the finishing touches to a tiny watch, and put it on the table. It started ticking. Then I thought, a whole day’s work done! Now to bed! And I started sleeping while the tiny watch was ticking on the table. I needed a very quiet atmosphere for a good sleep; and the watch’s ticking was the only sound around. And soon enough, I started feeling uncomfortable; I could not sleep with the watch ticking like that beside me. I tried to wait a little longer, but the watch’s ticking only intensified. After some time, I was so annoyed that I jumped out of the bed and stopped the watch, yes, in the dream!! But what I actually did was, put a stop to my alarm clock, which I had wound the previous night, and the time was, exactly 4:00.
I soon realized that I had a dream. When I thought of what I did, it was unbelievable to me at first, but then I thought, it must have been my subconscious brain, which actually calculated the time, with the biological clock, and put a dream into my head when the time was up for my alarm clock to shrill. Or, alternatively, it was too dumb to understand the shrilling sound that annoyed it, and gave me an instantaneous dream. The dreams are stored in a very short time memory. It goes almost into oblivion once you are wide awake.
The Subconscious is immensely more powerful than the conscious part we know of and are in most of the time. You have experiences of doing one of your best works, when you are not much prepared or not at all conscious of doing it, right? Still, you did your best work. How? The explanation is this: you were in a very relaxed state, and nothing was bothering you. So your brain had a channel opened to the Subconscious, without your knowledge, and it did the work. You have experience going to more experienced people or your peers to find the answers to any of your doubts or queries. You would have obtained a better and immensely practical solution to your troubles had you only asked your subconscious.
You see the immense abilities of the Subconscious? Hypnosis is a way of tapping these powers of the subconscious brain, as I perceive it. The process is roughly like this: you are asked to relax in a position, where you should not be disturbed for another half hour or so. Now, you have to concentrate on any fixed point somewhere, or close your eyes and just relax. You have to feel that nothing is more important to you in the world right now. Now you have to relax completely, taking deep breaths, and feel that your eyelids are heavy and drooping, when your arms, legs and stomach are relaxing at the maximum. You have to free yourself, and feel like floating on the air.
Within some time, you are absolutely in that theta brainwave state, when you are in a semiconscious being, and have a door opened to the Subconscious. Now, whatever is told to you, you are prone to inherently understand, and obey. Still, nothing harmful to you can be invoked through this process. For instance, a hypnotist cannot easily give you a suggestion to you to drink a vial of cyanide. That is an activity, the brain understands as harmful to your life, and would not allow you to undertake. In such cases, you are most likely to jump out of the trance state with a thought of self preservation.
Self Hypnosis: one of the best ways to improve your strengths.
Usually hypnosis requires assistance from a hypnotist, who is a therapist trained to do the hypnosis process, usually a psychologist or a psychiatrist. The highlights of a hypnotist are a deep, monotonous and grating voice that can reach directly into your brain, an alluring personality, and skill in using captivating phrases.
So, what if you can hypnotize yourself? That would prove to be one of the best things you can do to yourself. You can hypnotize yourself, and can provide suggestions, with which, you can make yourself a better person overnight! So, we are about to look at the ways to do that. To do a research into this article, I had looked at various resources on and off line. For a reference, you can find them all below.
The requirements and the process:
First, you have to have a calm and serene atmosphere, where you are not going to be disturbed for another hour. Now, please also try to have a comfortable position, and away from any kind of movements. Also, it is desirable if there is no noise.
Have some background music played (without lyrics, just music). The music has to be very low and serene. And hip hop, rock, and rap are not preferred. It has to be absolutely low, and monotonous.
Now, have a point on the ceiling or anywhere you can look without much effort, and stare at the point, fix your eye and make no movement whatsoever. Have nothing come to your mind, and take five to ten deep breaths. Now, optionally you can count on each breath. That would put your brain out of a state of thought. While doing the counting, you have to relax your body, from the head to the toes. Try to feel that your eyelids are drooping and heavy.
Once you are fully relaxed, and feeling like floating, you can tell yourself this phrase: “I can become more self-reliant each time I do this process.” Chant this phrase or any other positive phrase. You are giving your brain, suggestions. You can write your own phrases, and ask the Subconscious to do it. You can tell your brain to stop the bad habit you are having, or anything similar. Chant this phrase a few times, and then you can come back to conscious state.
Please repeat these steps everyday. At first it would be a tedious process, or it would look like one. But as the time goes by, you will automatically go to the trance easily, and in less time.
